SECURITY ABC

Any household, both in the city and in the countryside, can be a target for burglars. Almost every home has valuable items that attract burglars: TVs, cash, computers.

Have you moved to a new place of residence?

  • Replace hollow exterior doors with solid wood, fiberglass or steel doors.
  • Make sure that the hinges of your front door are on the inside rather than the outside, otherwise an intruder can remove the hinges and pull the door out of the frame.
  • Be sure to use the stickers and signs of a security system.
  • Install outdoor floodlights with motion sensors around your house.
  • Make sure that your home security system includes a loud internal alarm, sensors on all exterior doors, motion sensors in the bedroom and main living areas.
  • To make sliding glass doors safe, install a lock with a latch or use a stopper to block closed doors.
  • If you are away from home for a long time, use time relays to turn lights on and off at various times. It gives the impression that someone is home.
  • If it is possible that the previous owner still has the keys to your home, change the locks or have them adapted to other keys.
  • Do not write your name or address on your key ring, as this will give thieves a direct path to the right door.

Before leaving home

  • Always keep your garage door locked.
  • Do not leave valuables where they can be seen through windows and attract thieves.
  • Always lock all doors and windows when leaving home (most burglaries take place between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm).
  • If you are going to travel far, don't tell random people or announce it on social media.
  • Thieves always find the key in the mailbox, under the doormat and above the door. Don't make their life easy.
  • Don't let newspapers pile up in your mailbox and attract the attention of burglars. Ask a neighbor or friend to remove leaflets from your mailbox if you are away from home for a long time.
